In Kamloops This Week today, MP Betty Hinton said the protest/walkout by child care providers in Kamloops over the Conservative replacement to the Liberals' national program is "not necessary" and "premature." Her rationale, according to the newspaper:
Hinton argued that her government is creating new child-care spaces via an infusion of $250 million.Yes, she says they "are creating" spaces. The problem is, her party promised to create 25,000 new child care spaces across Canada within twelve months. That one-year mark has come and gone with not a single new space created. So, Betty, it's not premature. And not only is it necessary, it's not enough, because you're still not listening.

Why doesnt the flaccid press in this town get off their butt and do some investigation into real life scenarios where nationally funded daycare systems have morphed into cash eating monsters?
In Autralia, the national daycare program produced Eddie Groves, of ABC daycare centers....who became Australia's newest billionaire with a collection of exotic cars and luxury homes.
Under that program, daycare costs in Sydney now average $100 per day!
Sounds like just what we need.
This is off topic BUT.I have to agree with this guy and I dont think he should have quit.Yes his letter should have been more tactful.HOWEVER,he is right in that Americans should be stopped from hunting here.I have heard too many stories about americans coming here, killing a prize animal, taking the head and leaving the meat to rot in the bush and getting away with it because they spread money around.Americans cant manage their own wildlife so they want ours.No way.
"B.C. cabinet minister quits over nasty email

A junior B.C. provincial cabinet minister has resigned after a profanity-laced email to a constituent came to light.
"It was simply a totally inappropriate e-mail, an inappropriate response to an issue that was raised by a constituent," B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell said Tuesday about the email authored by Bill Bennett.
"My comments were inappropriate and they were inflammatory," Bennett, the junior minister for mining.
Bennett got into it with constituent Maarten Hart, who lives in Bennett's East Kootenay constituency.
The dispute was over hunting rights.
Hart is president of the Fernie Rod and Gun Club. Last November, he wrote a letter to Bennett saying it was an insult that hunting guides who cater to foreigners got a disproportionate share of hunting licences.
Bennett issued his blistering response last week.
"It is my understanding that you are an American, so I don't give a shit what your opinion is on Canada or Canadian residents," he said.
Bennett continued with similarly colourful language, saying, "As someone who has spent the past six years working my ass off for my constitutents, I am not about to take that kind of bullshit from someone who, for all I know, is an American spy ....
"I will continue to work for hunters and anglers in the East Kootenay as I always have and you will continue to be a self-inflated, pompous, American know-it-all.
Have a nice day. Bill Bennett," is how the email ended.
"I wasn't thinking," Bennett said, when asked what he was thinking.
NDP Leader Carole James jumped in the incident.
"I think an attitude change is needed for the entire Liberal caucus. They don't like to hear from people who disagree with their opinion and its time they start showing respect for all British Columbians," she said.
Bennett will remain as an MLA and as a member of the Liberal caucus.
With a report from CTV British Columbia's Jim Beattie"
