Betty admits mistake

After numerous newspaper articles responded to with accusation of misquoting, after attacks in the House of Commons responded to with denials of wrongdoing, after several posts by this blog, Betty Hinton has finally admitted she claimed to be "part of the cabinet". Kamloops This Week reported on its front page today that Hinton "admitted she made a 'mistake'." Apparently what she meant is she is "part of the cabinet circle". That's a bit like if we said, "We are an official publication of the Parliament of Canada," then were called on it, and corrected ourselves, saying "Sorry, we misspoke, what we meant is that we are related to the Parliament of Canada in that we comment on political issues." However, we give Betty full credit for owning up to her error. Correct us if we're wrong, but we suspect this is the first time she's done so.

Looks like poor Betty is getting some national exposure over her mistaken belief that she is in cabinet.

Yeah, the left can drag out political heavy weights like Aaron Wherry. If you google him you will see he is an arts and entertainment reporter. No doubt most responsible adults seek their political reporting from music critics. Classic leftie mudslinging here. No doubt you courageously annonymous freedom fighters shopped your schlock around the web and found the only interest you could generate was on the arts pages. It makes sense, because fiction and fantasy seem to be your economic policy as well

This whole this is such a ridiculous debate. She's not a backbencher, nor is she in Cabinet- Parliamentary Secretaries have always occupied a vague gray area betwixt the two. The sensationalizing of this whole thing by the New Democrats and their allies has been in very poor taste, I find.

wow, i find it soo funny how people are wasting their time over an argument over semantics.

Seriously you NDPers who think you have a chance at winning the next election really need to get a life and actually work towards finding actual employment rather than awaiting the next Lenin to lead you to "paradise"

Off topic but...I think there needs to be an all out boycot of BC,perhaps even Canada and kick the Liberals out of Canada for high treason.

BC Premier Gordon Campbell
http://members.shaw.ca/bcliberals-badforbc
http://2010watch.com/articles/fantasy.html

I wont call him honorable because he is anything but. Gordon Campbell is a liar and a cheat. The man has proven to be a menace to the province in more ways than one.He sold off B.C. Rail, closed old folks homes, ripped up legal agreements, drove people to suicide, laid off nurses, government workers, closed hospitals, closed schools, cut funding to handicapt people, laid off social workers now more kids than ever are dying in foster care.As far as I'm concerned that SOB should be in jail for murder.A small family of 3 killed themselves because he cut funding for their handicap son who was happy at home, yet Campbell was perfectly willing to pay 1,200$ a month for the young man to be in foster care. Welfare people and handicapt people killed themselves.Campbell promised to provide jobs and make BC a wonderfull place to live, yup hes done that alright there are plenty of minimum wage part time jobs and the average family cant afford to buy a house.Much less afford the taxes. Dumpy ,run down old houses that should be bulldozed are running around the cost of 200,000 or more. The rich have gotten richer, the middle class are getting poor and the poor are ending up on the street. Gordon Campell has not once held himself accountable for anything. He wouldnt even take responsiblilty for drunk driving. He boohooed to the media, there were no consequences for his actions.A native man would have gotten 3 years in jail,a white man 6 months.Government officials...scott free.Campbell all but hung a "For sale" sign on BC's door.He sold us out to americans.Governemt employees paycheques are now being handled by private companies that are incompetent to say the least.
Campbell has single handedly destroyed this province.

BOYCOT THE 2010 BC GAMES,better yet boycot BC-why,how about the low income people who are being kicked out of their homes to make room for visitors. How about the Olympic commity that is harassing and suing inocent people for having olympic type names and logos that have been in families for generations. How about the damage to the environment with new highways and developement. As far as I'm concerned athletes can get real jobs like everyone else.If they want to exploit themselves like circus performers then their pay should come from their viewers, not the tax payers.

GORDON CAMPBELL IS MY SHEPHERD I shall soon want He leadeth me beside still factoriesand abandoned farms He restores my doubt in the liberals He anointed my wages with taxes and inflation, so my expense runneth over myincome. Surely poverty and hard living shall follow ,and I shall work on a rented farm, and live in a rented house forever.

Five thousand years ago Moses said:"Pick up your shovel, mount your ass,and I will lead you to the promised land."Five thousand years later, Trudeau said:"Lay down your shovel and sit on your ass, light up a camel; this is the promised land."This year Gordon campbell will take your shovel, sell your camel, kick your ass, and tell you he gave away the Promised Land.

I am glad I am a Canadian,I am glad I am free,But I wish I was a dog,and Gordon was a tree.

If you have ever been sickened by the image of a group of people kicking some poor victim to death, then welcome to the kamloops media.

She made an error in speech. Its not a lie. She admitted the error.

The Taliban delight in stoning women to death for the most unusual reasons....glad to see women in politics can expect no less from the press in Kamloops.

The other news media in Kamloops, NL and CFJC, both had editorial comments today complaining about the vicious anti-Hinton bias in the print media. Kudos to Jim Harrison and Doug Collins - it's about time someone shone some light on Rothenburger, Duncan, and Bass' anti-Hinton agenda.

Am I the only one in Kamloops who wants to grab Rothenburger by the ear and scream "YOU'RE NOT THE MAYOR ANYMORE! GET OVER IT!"?

Unfortunately, for Mrs. Hinton, the damage is already done and is for the most part 'irreversible'. This goes much deeper than her revelations (or aspirations) about being in the Cabinet.
Her 'lacadaisical' attitude towards the Media outlets in her own riding and her inability to see eye to eye with the majority of her constituents will ultimatelly prove to be her 'undoing' when the 'writ is dropped'.
No matter. Whoever we elect as our MP the next time will be placed into an unenviable position. For his/her own position to succeed, he/she will have to satisfy ALL the voters as well as the Media.
Good luck.
We will never elect a future MP with the charisma and intelligence of Nelson Riis. Never. Those days are gone for good. There's NOBODY 'waiting in the wings'. Duh ----- let's see. How about Michael Crawford (aka 'The Phantom'), or Mayor Mel, or Mayor Lake, or Peter Milobar, or John (LOSER) McFee, or Ken (give me a break) Sommerfeld, or Arjun (Grrrr!) Singh, or Pat (so very tired) Wallace, or Randy (left?, Right?) Patch or ??????
Welcome to Frootloops, the city of LOSERS.

Wonder why the charismatic and intelligent Riis took peoples money for Rockport Homes claiming contracts were signed with Chile and then never produced anything?

For those who condemn those journalists for having what they call an anti-Hinton agenda, I have one question: how is that any different from your pro-Hinton agendas? It's called opinion for a reason. You have yours, Rothenburger has his and I have mine. In the end, my opinion will only matter on election day which can't come soon enough.

To answer your question about opinion. Newspaper have NEWS pages...ie front page inside pages and OPINION pages, commonly refered to as Editorial page and op ed, customarily opposite the editorial page. Opinion is usually presented in the form of arguments. News is supposed to be a non-biased, fair representation of the different sides of an argument, allowing the reader to make informed opinions based on the "facts" presented in the news articles. By slanting the coverage, as has been so egregiously demonstrated on the news pages of both local print publications, voters are not getting a fair representation of the issues, or the facts. Rather, we have been subjected to a relentless drum beat of negativity, which just coincidently serves the political agenda of the Liberal party of Canada in one paper's case and the NDP in the other. Certainly the owners and employees of these publications are aware of these standards. That they choose not to follow them is their right in a free country, but don't expect those who disagree to take it on the chin and say nothing.

To summarize...news pages are for news. Opinion pages are for opinions. Editorializing in the news pages is a universaly frowned upon, sadly today it is a tradition more honoured in the breach than observance.

Martin was also mistaken no doubt. He probably thought they were cricket players:

VANCOUVER - Paul Martin solicited the support of the terrorist International Sikh Youth Federation in his failed bid for the federal Liberal leadership in 1990, The Vancouver Sun has learned.

Oh, I GET IT. Just because this 'site' is titled "Hinton Out" it's not a reference to replacing the governing Conservatives with the 'frog-lead' Liberals. It's simply about getting Ms. Hinton out of the running; hoping to replace her with another Conservative who could be more 'electable'.
Now, just who would that be??

I did not infer that 'charisma and intelligence' is necessarily a GOOD thing. Aren't those the character traits of the most successful Con Artists in society?

Anonymous said...

So the "Hinton out " blog is a Conservative plot? Pass the magic mushrooms and lets have some more dialogue, my friend.

Seems like it's alsmost split between pro and anti-Hinton. Since this riding traditionally elects members mostly based on the philosophy that every (non-member) vote cancels out an equal (member/incumbent) vote, that will probably continue into the next fed election. Were Betty's credentials at all superior to the previous MP's when she 'upset' him or did the masses just gang up on poor Nelson?
Having said this, I suppose most of us will enter the polling booth, close our eyes and pinch our noses, and put an 'X' where ever. Kind of a political 'pin the tail on the donkey'.
And, who can deny that Mr. Dion is about as scintillating as Pope Benedict?
