Have the Tories given up on Betty?

Federal minister Stockwell Day's decision to pull out of the Kamloops Conservatives fundraiser with only one day's notice should give Betty Hinton's constituents a reason to believe that the party has given up on this seat. Betty has been leaking support over the last few months, with events like her dishonesty over her position in government, this blog, and the Skrepnek controversy hurting her credibility – not to mention her continued inaction on issues that matter to the people who elected her.
We know that Stockwell Day would rather play a few rounds of golf and laugh it up with the Governor of Washington than speak in this riding ... especially when he knows that people will be protesting. Now we also know that the Tories aren't willing to risk anything for Betty ... she's a lost cause.

Well, that's one theory. Or, more likely the cross border shopping day trips from Washington State residents represents a significant percentage of BC GDP. And the Governor of Washingtom is working with Canadian representatives and US federal officials on the new State driver's licences which will allow Washington residents to get back into the states without a US passport (which very few of them possess).

Since Mr. Day eshews the Challengers favored by the previous government, the logistics are tough. The Conservative government is WORKING for Canada, not FIGHTING (if you've seen the lame-ass ads on TV.)

As a heads up, you work with your friends if you want to effect progress...you don't fight with them. Adults recognize that there are many ways to resolve conflicts. Opining from a lectern in a lecture theatre may satisfy the shallow ego gratification of would be Marxists dealing with eager faces of youth. Adults who question and demonstrate superior knowledge aren't so easily bamboozled.

I don't think he's given up, so much as there's a recognition that Stockwell Day is in some pretty hot water himself, with this whole Hart scandal going on. Betty Hinton is none to popular - then again, she's only ever won in the past with less than 1/3 support in the riding, so the rural vote is still where it counts. How are they viewing her performance? Do they think she has what it takes to get things done for them? Has the pine beetle issue, and other issues, done anything to dent her support in the rural areas?

It doesnt really matter...people will vote for the national party platform...most studies show the local candidate accounts for less than 5 % of the vote. Crawford is not very likeable and the Liberals have no national momentum so its pretty well status quo.

With the conservative government imposing a US style "war on drugs" mentality, even in the face of a US easing of their drug policy. The government censorship of movies with bill C-10. I will never vote for this party of "values." Steven Harper says he is skeptical of harm reduction. His government hand picked a group of people to study a safe injection site in Vancouver's East Side. Their study, along with others, found that people were more likely to get treatment, crime rates didn't go up, over 90% of needles given out were returned, at least one life has been saved, many drug overdoses were treated immediately and generally it was working and there is tremendous public and police support for the project. What is there to be skeptical about? And what about this million dollar life insurance policy and election "misinterpretation."
