Federal public safety minister Stockwell Day (and Penticton-area MP) will be doing a fundraiser with Betty Hinton at Forsters convention centre (in the Best Western) this Saturday at 5 PM. Dinner is $100 for non-Conservative members, but the speeches at 6 PM are only $5 at the door.
KTCVC has been informed that a number of local groups will be organizing a rally against the federal budget at Forster's, beginning at 4:30 PM on Saturday. The rally is open to all.

It isn't the elected ones you have to keep an eye on...they come and go. The bureaucrats are the real problem. The Trilateral Cooperation Charter, which focuses on HARMonization of regulatory structures is where the real problems are. These "agreements" (not treaties) are drafted and executed by bureaucrats. The trouble is that the senior bureaucrats who sign them (typically ADMs) are policy executors, not policy drafters. The drafters are the "revolving door" bureaucrats from Institutional Investment Industry, which if you've been paying attention is in kinda tough times these days. Do you think it's coincidence that the Clerk of the Privy Council was most recently a policy wonk at the IMF in DC. Or that the DM Health is an expert not in health or health policy, but in Intellectual Property? The pols are window dressing. They swear on oath to the Crown, not their constituents. The Crown is all about the status quo.

The federal Conservatives got the budget boost they were hoping for, putting them on the cusp of a majority if an election were to be held today, latest poll numbers suggest.

The Strategic Counsel survery's snapshot of how Canadians would vote today.
Taken between March 20 and 21 following Monday's budget address, the Strategic Counsel survey for CTV News and The Globe and Mail asked: How would Canadians vote today?
39 per cent said they would vote for a Conservative candidate.
31 per cent chose Liberal.
That puts the Conservatives three percentage-points higher compared with pre-budget polling numbers, while their lead over the static Liberals stretched from five to eight percentage points over that period.
Numbers for the NDP (13% from 15%), Bloc Quebecois (8% from 9%) and the Green Party (9% from 10%) were all down slightly compared to the last Strategic Counsel poll, taken one week before the budget was unveiled.
Pollster Allan Gregg says the Conservative Party's steadily-improving fortunes seem to be a reflection of its "steady, balanced approach to new initiatives."
"There's been a steady increase in Conservative support in this entire calendar year -- an eight-point climb from 31 per cent in January to 39 per cent now. And for the first time really since the summer of 2006 -- they are tied in Ontario with the Liberals" at 40 per cent, Gregg told CTV.ca.
Media reports indicate the Stockwell Day visit is cancelled and will be rescheduled to April 13 when the entire BC Caucus meets here in Kamloops.
Although Stockwell Day has cancelled, the fundraiser is still going ahead with a new guest speaker; Kevin Skrepnek. Skrepnek's talk will be "The use of the Internet in Modern Day Politics"
