"Trust me:" Betty spars with civic leaders

Betty Hinton's first meeting at City Hall in over a year was less than a smashing success, by all accounts. "I don't feel we're any further ahead than we were before the meeting," the Daily News quoted Mayor Terry Lake as saying; he also referred to her as "not helpful" and "condescending." There are strong reasons to accept Lake's account; asked about airport expansion funding, the best Hinton could do was "hopefully we'll see something." Hopefully, indeed – if Betty would just try standing up for her constituents.

It's not only Betty Hinton's fault that the MP and council have a strained relationship. Relationships are a two way street and if Mayor Terry Lake says Hinton is "not helpful" and "condescending" that is going to make matters worse, not better. Everyone invovled - Mayor Lake, Betty Hinton, and Kamloops city council - needs to stop calling each childish names and start working together for the good of Kamloops. They need to establish a professional working relationship. The job of a mayor is to lead and Terry Lake should set an example by acting more professional when dealing with the MP.

What is unfortunate is she has the potential of a rapidly growing town to voice ideas and make changes, and actually represent Kamloops, instead of gracing us with her presence ever so often in lame attempts to boast of what she can do *Janet Jackson’s What have you done for me lately muzac insert here* who she is and where she has been. There is no room in current politics for the lack of action of the old days…

Terry Lake is no icing on the cake either, he seems pretty much ‘a go to kid’ kind of mayor to the well established Randy Diehl, Chief Administrative Officer. The practices of city hall are no example to Hinton- if anything says more about the wild ways of the west and how things work than anything else.

It would seem to me, it’s all in who you know where and when.

So if they are unprofessional with her maybe it is due to her lack of unprofessionalism, just reminded everyone of your status on the hill is not enough to earn respect, it goes both ways. I’m sure city hall paid for lunch, she was lucky to get that!

The whole town needs a new injection of forward thinking representatives- even if that is a new Conservative representative.

Betty Hinton reminds me of a child with a new sandbox (read Government not opposition) who has, in her mind been slighted by past playmates (read Lake and McFee). Now that she has a new sandbox, they cannot play with her anymore.
Grow up Betty..

McFee? Now that's witty.

So Fee would be half witty?

No, that would just be dumb or ignorant. Your pick.

I witnessed the little show Betty put on in front of City Council. I thought maybe she was drunk or on something. I could not believe the BS she was trying to sell. Nothing she said made any sense.
I still cannot believe the so call wise voters in the Kamloops region put this "thing"in office. To trade an MP with 20 years experience,a respected politician locally and NATIONALLY, who had the ear of Government and who actually answered your Federal concerns in a timely manner, for this BAAAAg is unconsciouable!Get with it people!Ring the panic bells and throw this moron out.

Oh, you mean Riis?

He put on quite a show for 20 years. Never got us anything but he sure was popular. One day the voters said enough. Even the all powerful Rothenburger's endorsement of him couldnt help.

Betty Hinton didnt sort of slip in by mistake. She won 3 times in 5 years by a hefty majority. She has been a great constituency worker. When you call her a moron , you insult the voters.
