There are times when even your least favourite politician comes through. Wednesday was one of those days, when Betty Hinton joined federal natural resources minister Gary Lunn to announce $6.6 million in funding for the expansion of Kamloops Airport.
The Conservative government deserves its due for doing what the people of Kamloops have been asking for over two years. There has been inaction, there has been stalling, there have been excuses; but it has finally happened.
Thank you, Betty. You have done something for us.

Yes and it shows how Kamloops has been well served by politicians of all stripes who overcame personal differences and political differences to work for the well=being of all Kamloops and region citizens.
Ofee and Sommerfeld were gracious and complimented the Conservatives for coming up to the plate....and likewise, Hinton complimented the City efforts....it was wierd but certainly nice for a change.
I think the media have it wrong when they surmize the public likes to see the politicos scrapping...Candians are lovers, not fighters.

The media got it right. The secrecy, the shunning of the Mayor, the length of time to get these dollars and the fact that it is coming out of the Pine Beetle Fund.
The announcement and the funding are typical of Tory politics. By being thankful and grovelling one falls into their trap. Because, if your not happy then your ungrateful. Sure we promised more and should be working harder but you should be grateful for having such a wonderful government.
Hinton is a disgrace to her riding and should be replaced, even a homophobic city councillor would be better.
The message should be, " It's about F'n time, Betty !. Now get back to work!"

Let me see...the Mayor is upset because he didnt get told it was a BIG announcement. I guess the 700 invitations by his own City department, the two full page ads by the MP, and the full press attendance by all the local media and one Kelowna outlet didnt tip him off!!!
Length of time? The Conservatives have been in minority power for 18 months. The last time Kamloops had a major federal funding announcement was 30 years ago!!!!(Marchand-Liberals in power).
Oh,by the way, during the 20 years of Riis rule, loved by the media, we got dick all.
Nice deflection from the Hintonists, offering up excuses. Betty has been the MP long enough that she should have gotten much more done in her time in office. One does not get national attention for outrageous lies and a low work ethic by working hard and telling the truth. Do they?
One can delve into history and point to worse MPs or worse governments, usually Tory, but the facts are facts and Betty is a terrible MP, and she happens be the current one. My recommendation from a non-ideological person is get to work. My advice as a so-called centre/left is " Pull yourself up by your boot straps and get to work !"
It is funny that Tories always talk about personal responsibility but have produced the worst governments and laziest Mps this nation as known.

Lets see what Hinton did wrong: she brought us about $6.6 Million for the airport, $250,000 for mobile aids training, and about another $60.000.000 since the Conservatives have been in power for Community Futures, pine tree removal, etc etc.

What I cant understand is how the Mayor can say he wasnt invited when his own City economic development officer says he sent the Mayor an invitation. And one to the KIB Chief.
I got one...it was an email, not a printed one. I was at the announcement. The City was thanked several times by the speakers.
And it kind of drives you nuts logically. The feds give the money to the City and they have to thank the City? What? I give money to the Cancer Society for their good work...I dont say "thank-you for taking my money"
They work hard to get my donation but they thank me, not the other way around!!! Or maybe we've entered Bizzarro world and everything will be backwards.

Yes, Betty was quoted, " I love giving out money." Which is strange for a Tory. But this doesn't correlate with doing one's job as an MP.
How many votes has she missed in her terms?
How many announcements has she made?
How has she represented her other responsibilities and the riding?
How many bills has she put forward?
Chair committees?
Yes she has done her job...her constituents who use her office for passport and other problems are content.
Oh, I get it, you mean meetings and vote and bills and stupid press releases that get an MP's name in the paper but usually dont result in one single benefit to us in the riding?
Right, that's what we need more of.

Anyway, change the name of this blog to Hinton Not Out because she was in a statistical first place tie with the Liberals before this announcement took place.
And that was after the most vicious smear campaign against a politician ever seen in Kamloops by certain media, some local politicians, and the usual political hacks.
They should call Betty the "Iron Lady"
Passports get handled by any staffer in Hinton's office.. she doesnt even touch that kind of thing. That might mean she would have to meet with a constituent. She cant even keep the same staff in her offices either here or in Ottawa from what I understand. Thankfully the lady she has hired to do this sort of thing actually cares about solving the problems of the constituents so that Betty might fill her name in the blanks on the media releases when they are written up by the Party to be sent out.
My one and only request from our so called MP was an exercise in futility. I had to go in to her office in person to try and get confirmation that they really did get my email.At first they denied that they had received the message,when I mentioned that it had not bounced back they said they would check. They did find it and I did not hear anything back for about one month.
Any dealings I has with Nelson Riis
were taken care of within a day.
